Always Wanted

An adoption and foster care ministry of Vanguard Church

Supporting adoptive and foster families

Not everyone is called to adopt or provide foster care.  Supporting adoptive and foster families is a great way to live out your call to care for orphans. Please consider partnering with Always Wanted to care for Vanguard's adoptive families by:

  • Making a tax-deductible donation to Vanguard's Adoption Grant Program Affording an adoption is one of the heaviest burdens adoptive families face; you can lighten this load.
  • Joining the Volunteer Network to support families in tangible ways such as:
    • providing respite care (it's our goal to have individuals trained to legally provide respite care to foster families)
    • preparing and delivering a meal
    • being available to help families with adoptive or foster care related needs
    • Encouraging families through notes, scripture and prayer
  • Becoming a sponsor family:  In the Sponsor Family Program, one family commits to support a new foster or adoptive family in tangible ways for one year. Provides prayer, respite care, meals, etc. as needed.  Supports directly and enlists help from the volunteer network.
Would you join us in caring for Vanguard's adoptive and foster care families? If you're a Vanguard adoptive or foster care family we want to support you! Contact Michele Heath at micheleheath@hotmail.com.

Pray for adoption and foster care

"Each orphan in the world has a name and a story, and each waiting child needs a family. For the church to really have an impact, we need first to hit our knees. From prayer springs action, born of love. We are inviting all those willing to join us in praying for these children and every orphan who is waiting for a family." (Shaohannah's Hope)

  • Visit a photo-listing site like AdoptUsKids.org and pray for specific children in the US foster care system that are waiting to be adopted. Consider printing a child's photo and posting it somewhere where you'll be reminded to pray often.
  • Pray regularly for adoptive and foster care children and families at Vanguard. If you're an adoptive or foster care family please let us know how we can pray for you.

Be an advocate for adoption and foster care

You can change lives by speaking out about the plight of the orphan and the beauty of adoption and foster care!  Here are some ideas:

  • Ask God how He wants you to support adoption and foster care.
  • Through personal devotion, discover God's heart for orphans. Consider your adoption in Christ.
  • Share your heart.  Consider blogging about adoption and foster care. Talk with your friends and family about why God cares so much about orphans and adoption.
  • Educate yourself on the relevant information you need to speak knowledgeable about adoption and foster care.
  • Educate yourself on positive adoption language. Sometimes well-meaning words can be hurtful to adoptive families or children.
Visit VoiceOfTheOrphan.org for great ideas on how to advocate for orphans and adoption. Also check out their advocacy resources and list of organizations with advocacay and awareness as their primary focus.
